Biography of Mr. Robert Jaquiss

Executive Director since August 2004 and Vice-chairman since June 2005. Mr. Jaquiss has set up the foundation's headquarters, expanded the board, and has overseen the foundation's first project, the production of the book Touch The Sun and successfully applied for 501(C) (3) status.
A member of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) since 1990, Mr. Jaquiss has developed an expertise in the technologies related to the production of tactile graphics, three-dimensional models, and document scanning and processing. He has served on the NFB Research and Development Committee since 1993.
Mr. Jaquiss received his bachelor's degree in computer science from Oregon State University in 1976. In addition to a major in computer science, Mr. Jaquiss also has minors in business administration and music. In 2000, he received a general certificate in nonprofit development from Portland State University.
From 1976 to 1999, Mr. Jaquiss worked for Tektronix, Inc., a leading manufacturer of test and measurement equipment. He worked as a software engineer and network administrator.
Mr. Jaquiss has been interested in tactile graphics since childhood when he worked with his father, the late Robert Jaquiss Sr., to develop a technique for the production of tactile maps. He continued developing his expertise in tactile graphics, and in 1998, he was invited to serve a term on the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) Technical Committee on Tactile Graphics, which is working to establish standards for the production of tactile graphics.
In 2004 Mr. Jaquiss was invited to serve on the International Council of English Braille (ICEB) Tactile Graphics Committee. This project is to coordinate research and write guidelines for the production of tactile graphics and related teaching methods.
Mr. Jaquiss’s interests include archeology, history, the history of the blind, and the concept of sustainable rehabilitation of the blind in developing nations. Mr. Jaquiss is active in his local church and Lions club.
